Can You Use Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid Together?

Short answer: yes. Vitamin C and hyaluronic acid are one of the easiest pairings in skincare, and plenty of formulas already combine them. They do different jobs, so they don't compete with each other.

What each one does

Vitamin C is an antioxidant. It's used to help skin look brighter and more even over time.

Hyaluronic acid is a humectant, which means it draws water into the top layers of skin. The result is skin that looks plumper and dewier and feels more comfortable.

Because one is about brightness and the other is about hydration, using both covers two of the most common goals at once.

Which goes on first?

The general rule for layering is thinnest to thickest. Water-light serums go on first, richer textures after. In practice:

  1. Cleanse and pat skin dry.
  2. Apply your vitamin C serum and give it a minute to absorb.
  3. Apply your hyaluronic acid serum.
  4. Finish with moisturizer, plus sunscreen in the morning.

Hyaluronic acid works best when there's moisture around to hold onto, so following it with a moisturizer helps keep that hydration in place.

One serum or two?

You don't always need two separate bottles. Our Vitamin C Serum already includes hyaluronic acid alongside a stable form of vitamin C and ferulic acid. If you want extra hydration, layer the Youthful Glow Serum on top. It's built around hyaluronic acid and sodium PCA, with watercress and elderberry extracts.

If you'd rather not think about it, the Dark Spot Routine Duo pairs two serums that are designed to be used together.

A few tips

  • Use vitamin C in the morning and follow with sunscreen. Sunscreen is what protects the brightness you're working toward.
  • Start slowly if your skin is sensitive. Try every other day for the first week.
  • Keep vitamin C capped and out of sunlight so it stays fresh.

Together, these two ingredients make a simple, reliable base for almost any routine.
